Electronic Gauges

For years electronic gauges also known as EDHG (electronic down hole gauges) or PDG (Permanent down hole gauges) have been the staple of well monitoring. Through the years several iterations of electronic gauge technology have been developed to obtain dependable system reliability. Development in this time also focused on the integrity of the electronic gauges mechanical components. Through years of experience electronic gauges and gauge system components have been refined and simplified to improve manufacturability and reliability with increased accuracy and resolution.

As a systems integrator, BMP Enterprises has a wide variety of gauge and gauge system components available to meet the needs of our customers and their well and reservoir applications. Whether it’s a low producing or high generating asset BMP’s fit for purpose approach and customized solutions guarantee both performance and economics are top priority.

Strain Gauge

Strain Gauge
Strain or piezoresistive based pressure gauges have been used for downhole pressure measurement in the oil and gas industry for decades. Strain technology has evolved as one of if not the most reliable and stable pressure sensing technologies available today.

At the heart of a strain pressure sensor are the resisitive elements of the strain (Wheatstone) bridge. These resistors are arranged in a balanced bridge configuration and bonded to a pressure element which flexes in response to applied pressure. When pressure is applied the resisitve elements are stretched changing their resistance value and unbalancing the bridge. When a voltage is applied to the bridge the output changes proportionally to the strain applied. The output can then be predicted thus allowing the sensor to be calibrated over a specified pressure range.

Strain Gauge Applications

Today’s strain transducer gauges are available in a wide range of operating pressures. Due to the ruggedness of their construction strain gauges are well suited for applications where tough conditions exist.

Strain gauges are relatively low cost however there cost competitiveness does not diminish their performance. As a result, strain gauges are an attractive option where economic constraints are a factor but a high level of performance is expected.

Strain gauges can perform many well monitoring functions from reservoir analysis and fluid column maintenance  to  protection for downhole equipment.

  • • Reservoir monitoring
  • • ESP monitoring
  • • PCP monitoring
  • • Beam Pump
  • • Fluid column maintenance
  • • Gas well unloading

Quartz Gauge

Quartz transducer gauges were developed as the need to instrument deeper and hotter wells came to the forefront. Deeper and hotter wells demanded a performance not possible with previous technologies. Quartz was selected as a transducer base due to its superior stability and repeatability properties.

Quartz transducers function as an active component of a precision frequency circuit. As pressure is applied the frequency output of the transducer shifts proportionally in response. The frequency shift over a span of pressure allows for calibration and predictability of the transducer.

Quartz Gauge Applications

Quartz gauges can be utilized for a number of applications where superior accuracy and repeatability are required such as:

  • • Reservoir monitoring
  • • Tight gas formation evaluation
  • • Pressure build ups
  • • Pulse testing
  • • Fall off testing
  • • Interference testing
